A Year in Review... A Year to Look Forward to!

Yes, I am at home at 10:00 on New Years Eve... I let my boys stay up till 9 tonight and that was to late, by 8:45 Arlo was breaking down. So, the boys are in bed and I thought... what would be better than posting 1 last post before the new year while watching Dick Clark's New Year's Countdown.

In 2011...

Arlo started talking and has not stopped!

Cohen has learned to crawl, walk and run.

We moved out of the parents house and move into a little house in East Phoenix.

Arlo went camping, ice skating, rode a quad, went on water slides and roller coasters.

Cohen is now giving and blowing kisses, mimicking words, making shooting and car noises, puts his finger to his lips and says 'sssss,' throws away his diapers and everything else.

Tim has gone back to school and started in a new position at his work.

Arlo learned to jump off diving board, ride a tricycle and balance bike, play hockey, soccer and football.

Cohen loves to show off for the camera and pose with a beautiful 'cheese' face! Uses signs for please and milk and climbs non-stop.

I've been a stay at home mom and a daycare provider for 3 other little ones.

2011 has been so busy, and our boys are growing up way to fast. They have learned so many new things (this list is puny compared to what has really happened!) and continue to amaze us every day.

Red, Green and Blue Christmas

Christmas was wonderful and oh, so heartbreaking this year. Arlo has been so excited all month for Christmas to arrive and this year for Christmas he got 2 ear infections and strep throat. He started to get sick the day before Christmas eve, that night he woke up with a temperature of 104.8!!! I was in panic mode. I started in with rotating through advil and tylenol to keep his temp down, and the next day his temp spiked up past 104 two more times with being on the meds. So on Christmas Eve we went to urgent care. No one wants their child to be sick, but I was grateful that when we went to urgent care they didn't just send us home and tell us there was nothing they could do. When Arlo and I got home, it was already 7:00 PM, so for our Christmas eve program my dad, brother, husband and kids all listened to Tim read the story of our Savior's birth, opened our christmas jammies, and piled in the car to see Christmas lights. When we got home, we put the kids to bed, and then quickly remembered that we forgot to put out cookies for santa, so we got Arlo back out of bed, put cookies and milk out and an apple for rudolph.

We had to drive by our favorite house again! On our way home from lights we noticed a red light flying through the air so, Arlo and Daddy went out to investigate and decided that is was, in fact, Santa and Rudolf!!!!!!

When Santa did come... he left no stocking unfilled and brought way to many presents!!!!

We have no fireplace so we improvised!!!

Santa thought I was extra good this year and brought me a new ipad!!!!

After a morning filled with presents, church, more presents and a much needed nap (after another horrible night with a sick child) we went over to grammy's house for Christmas dinner with my family and of course... more presents!!!!!!

Arlo and Lani got so carried away with opening presents, they started to open every present the touched, not caring who's it was! It was pretty funny!!!

We made it though Christmas alive, but our poor baby spent most of the next day like this...

Overall it was a wonderful Christmas! I just pray that next year we will all be healthy for it!!!!

Getting Ready For Christmas!

2011 has been a special Christmas. Up until this Christmas, our children have been either non-exsistant or to young to really get into the Christmas spirit. But, this Christmas was the first of many MAGICAL Christmases. Arlo (2.5) was old enough to really understand and get into the Christmas traditions that Tim and I have started.

So on December 2nd we all decorated the house. The boys got into the Christmas spirit by wearing funny headbands...

We all decorated the tree. The first ornaments that Arlo wanted to put on were the candy canes, as soon as Arlo would put a candy cane on, Cohen would take it off.

One tradition that Tim and I have started is everywhere we go we get an ornament. We have ornaments from hawaii, cancun, keyenta, cannon beach, disneyland, etc... We also have family ornaments from every year that we have been together and then we started buying the boys an ornament every year as well. It is something that Tim and my families both did for us. So our tree is filled with memories from our own childhoods as well as our own family memories that we have made together. Our tree is not a matching one, but it is so fun to decorate, because every ornament has a story.

Here is Arlo's and Cohen's 2011 ornaments, they picked them out themselves, notice it is already missing a hand, what you do not see is that the other hand has already been glued on. Both ornaments this year play music, which make them a magnet that the boys cannot keep their hands off of.

When we finished decorating the tree, we had to put it up on a chest and surround it by the couches because if we did not... well, we had to protect it from curious little hands!

We also decorated the rest of the house with a few odds and ends. Here are some fake poinsettias that I gave as a present in a white elephant game, then picked out for myself!

Here is Arlo's favorite decoration for the season. Tim and I have no idea where it came from or what it is, but when Arlo saw it he knew exactly what it was, he said "it's the liahona!"

Arlo's next favorite decoration is the m&m cracker. Yes, it dispenses m&m's... it does not make hard to understand why he loves it!

Tow's favorite decorations were all of them. Since we are just renting our house and we do not know how long we will be here, we did not put up our pictures and decorations because they are the hardest things to pack and unpack. So needless to say, when we finally put things up on our walls, Cohen could not get enough of it. On a daily basis (more like 5-10 times a day) Tow wants to be picked up and toted all around the house as he points to all the different decorations and we have to tell him the names of those decorations.

For the holidays we also did crafts together...

I finally figured out what the snow was made of... Diaper Stuffing... it was a mess to clean up!

One of our favorite holiday activities is to drive around and look at Christmas lights. While we were driving we came upon this house... Tim says it is white trash, I call it WONDERFUL!!!

Temple Lights

The Mesa, AZ, LDS Temple, the place where Tim and I were married for time and ALL eternity, puts on an amazing light display every year for Christmas. We love going every year because the lights are BEAUTIFUL and plentiful! And my boys are obsessed with lights!

Here is the main nativity on display at the temple, it was beautiful and great way to start off the season, by listening to the story of our Saviors birth.

This year, Stacy and part of her family came down from Utah and stayed with us for a weekend and so we all went together. It was nice because it was still in November, so it was not very busy and we had plenty of photo opportunities!

I have a pretty, good looking family if you ask me :-)

Happy Thanksday

I want to first off, apologize to Cohen for not throwing him a 1st birthday party. I can blame it on Tow being the 2nd child, or on his birthday being on thanksgiving and many other things. But the truth is, parties are a lot of planning and hard work, and I was just to lazy to organize it this year. But Cohen, you did have all the things you need to make a perfect 1st Birthday party, look and see...

You had a birthday cake...

You had the first birthday cake smash (which like your brother you did not do!)

Arlo teaching you how to do it. (Or trying to get rid of his cupcake because he does not like them either!)

You and your Aunt Stacey... she came all the way down from Utah to be with you on your special day!!! (OK... she came down for the Gooch family reunion, which I did not get any pics of.)

Cohen was not to happy when we put him on Santa's lap but after he took a look at Santa, he started crying. And Arlo was super excited to talk to Santa and tell him all about the tools he want's for Christmas, but when he found out he had to sit on his lap he was very upset.

Sorry Santa! Hopefully next year we will like you a little bit more!

Thankful for Birthdays

Happy Birthday Cohen!!!!!

Newborn Tow

Today is a day of thanks, and my birthday boy could not have chosen a better day to celebrate his 1st birthday on; because, I am so thankful for my boy.

1 Month Tow

As I look back on this hectic year, I am so thankful for how far we have come as a family. The year turned out far different than I expected. The first three months I had Cohen, I fully expected to be sleep deprived and crazy from having a newborn that needed me constantly.

2 month Tow

What really happened was (besides being sleep deprived) my Cohen was a sweet heart and perfect, it turned out to be Arlo who made me crazy those first three months.

3 month Tow

Cohen was a perfect baby, he was happy in my arms, he was happy in the swing and when he became more alert he was happy just laying on his mat, the kid was always happy.

4 month Tow

Then, at 4-8 months Cohen became a blast to watch as he was learning and exploring new things and starting to become mobile. He hardly ever cried, and when he did it was only because he was tired or hungry.

5 month Tow

When I put him to sleep, all I have ever had to do was lay him down in his crib and he would fall right asleep.

6 month Tow

If there was one thing I could change about Cohen and this past year it would be keeping him asleep once he fell asleep.

7 month Tow

Months 4-8 went better with Arlo as well, as he got more used to Cohen being around and less a turd about everything else, life with 2 kids finally felt like it was manageable (busy but manageable).

Then came months 9-12. During this time Cohen learned to climb, started teething 8 more teeth and both boys were going through colds like they couldn't get enough of them.

So needless to say, these last few months have probably been the hardest.

Which is not supposed to happen, because everything was going so well! I guess I should know better.

Cohen, you are such a blessing. I could not have begged Heavenly Father for a better kid than you. You are a sweetie, a lover and my favorite youngest boy!

As this year comes to an end, I want to make sure I thank my boys (men as Tim calls it) for this crazy wonderful year.

Boys being Boys

Life with kids is so fun. With Arlo I celebrated every little new thing he did, while at the same time I could not wait for the big milestones. With Cohen, it (sadly) takes the bigger things to grab my attention and when a big milestone comes around I just want him to stop growing up.

The past few weeks I have really been trying to pay attention to my Tow and celebrate his little and big accomplishments. His favorite things to do right now are:
Playing Peek-a-Boo
Waving: He can wave 2 different ways first, by opening and closing his hand and the other by waving his hand back and forth.
Clapping

Giving High Fives
Playing the binki sharing game: this is where he gives you his binki for you to put in your mouth and then he laughs and takes it back and puts it in his mouth. We swap a lot of spit but it is worth it to see the smile on his face.
Clicking his tongue
Sitting in Chairs

Playing ball: We sit on the floor facing each other with our legs spread out and Tow throws the ball (if we're lucky it stays in the circle of our legs) and then I get it and throw it back to him. He can do it for a good 10 minutes.
Hands up in the air: I sing (usually while we are eating) 'throw your hands up in the air-er and wave them like you just don't care-er.' And Tow laughs and puts his hands up in the air and shakes them.

Copying his older brother: Towen loves his big brother he wants to be just like him. One game that we play in the tubby is dinosaurs. Arlo has about 6 toy dinosaur bones that we use in the tubby, they all have names and we play pretend with them everyday. Cohen loves this game and while Arlo and I are playing dinosaurs, Cohen will get one and put his dinosaur up to ours and start making noises like he is talking for the dinos just like his big brother and me.

Loving on his big brother: Arlo cannot sit on the floor EVER without Cohen crawling up to him and attacking him. He basically tackles him to the floor every time he is on the floor. He just crawls right on top of him and starts laughing. And of course Arlo loves it. He just lies down and says over and over "Towen loves me!" and that is the truth. Towen LOVES his brother. (this video is the opposite)

Cuddling: So I guess this is not so much of an accomplishment, but it is something I like to brag about. My boy is a cuddler. He loves for me to hold him (with his blanket) and he just puts his head right into my neck and lays there. Sometimes as long as 30 minutes. He is a lover!

Now, there are also some things that Cohen does that I could definitely live without.
Back Arching: Cohen is now at the age that when he does not want to do something he will let you know by very, very quickly arching his back and screaming. He does it when you pick him up and he does not want to be picked up, or when you put him down when he does not want to be put down. When you put him in his exersaucer or bouncer or car seat. (He does not like to be constrained... he has to be free.)
Eats Everything: This may sound like good news, and it is when he is in his high chair, but when he is on the floor, he puts everything into his mouth.

Gets into everything: Cupboards, dishwasher, shelves, cabinets, pantry, drawers, closets... if he can get into something, he does.

Teething: He is getting 8 teeth right now. Yes EIGHT. He already has eight, he got all 8 of those when he was 4 months. Luckily, he has not gotten another tooth until now. The two, top, left teeth have just poked through within this last week. The other 6 are big, red, gummy mounds that look so painful.

Cohen's BIG milestone that he is working on right now is WALKING.

He took his first steps on October 28th. He was holding onto the couch (like he always does) turned and started walking to me. He took 3 steps before he fell. Of course, I had to go get the camera and when I came back I made him try again and again and again. He did not do as well as the first attempt.

Eventually on November 8th he got in 8 steps as he was walking from me to our pirate ship in the back yard. (I love being home where I can witness all his first!) Now, he is at the point that he tries to walk every time he stands, which is all the time. He only lasts 3-10 steps at a time before he falls down. But I am guessing by his birthday he will be a full blown walker.

Arlo, my big boy is such a blast to watch. He is so funny and so entertaining. He does not stop talking... ever, and no surprises here, but he LOVES to be the center of attention. He is talking so wonderfully, but there are a few things that he still messes up on. Whenever he talks about senses he uses 'tastes like' for the sense. Example: going through the tunnel- it tastes (looks) like a jungle, hears a fire truck it tastes (sounds) like a fire truck. He now knows the difference between girls and boys and says that boys are handsome and girls are "beauuuiful" but whenever he talks about girls and boys they are always he or him. As far as talking goes, he still has major speech issues (his c is a t sound, l is a w and r is a fr at the beginning of words and these are just a few examples), but his little voice is so high for a boy, it is so funny to listen to him. He is also the only one that is allowed to say prayers in our house. He cannot finish a prayer with out telling his Heavenly Father thank you for the crickets and lizards and 'mops' (moths), sometimes 2 or 3 times.

A few of Arlo's favorite things right now are helping his daddy fix things and going to the man store (home depot) in his daddy's truck. And anything else as long as it's with his daddy.

He loves to help me cook and clean, he does a wonderful job 50% of the time with helping me pick up his toys. He loves going to QT for icees, loves to play football and soccer and yell 'Go Utes' whenever he is playing any sport.

Arlo loves to play make believe with his dinosaurs. He loves find bugs and make them his best friends and will, many times, cry when he has to let them go home to their mommies and daddies. After he lets them go he will cry to me, 'he was my best friend'. (If he only knew that he usually killed them before he let them go.)
But, as much as Arlo loves bugs, on November 4th he woke up at 3 AM and came into my room crying that there were bugs in his bed and asked if he could sleep with me. It was his first nightmare so I let him crawl into bed with us. He had such a hard time falling back asleep that by the time he did fall back asleep, I left and went to sleep in his bed. When Arlo woke up in the morning and found me in his bed he yelled to me, "Mommy, there are no more bugs in my bed!"

It was so fun watching Arlo Trick or Treat that I did not get any pictures of him doing it. But he had such a good time. A few times, when people would give him candy he would ask for more, of course I would tell him that it was not polite but it was so funny.

This is also the season for the pumpkin patch and, we had a blast doing it this year. Arlo is at such a great age right now because he has so much fun doing these types of things and gets so excited with every little thing, it makes me laugh!

He loved the baby chickens, we had to go back to see them a few times.

And what little kid does not like petting the animals?

I think Tim likes Arlo riding the tractor as much as Arlo did!

We all loved the trains.

But our favorite was the corn maze.

July

July is a HUGE month for us, and one I don't want to forget. Besides the 4th of July which I've already blogged about we also celebrate both Tim and my birthdays. I turned (and from this point forward will forever be) 29.

For my birthday, and for the amusement of Arlo (who loves trains) we took a day trip up north and took a ride on the Verde Vally Train. It was a beautiful ride and it was nice to get out of the heat and do something different with the boys. Here is a few pics...

It has become a tradition of sorts to go up to Utah for the 24th of July. We love it because it is easier for Tim to get off work, it is so much cooler in UT than AZ in July and, it lets Tim and Arlo legally celebrate with fireworks 2 times in the same month. Usually we go up with no definite plans, but this year we were up for 10 days and we had plans every single day we were up there. It was a BUSY, exhausting and extremely fun trip.

One of the fist places we went was to the Hogle Zoo with our good friends and their son. It was a great time to go because the had a dinosaur exhibit throughout the zoo with life size dinos everywhere that made noise, moved and some even squirted water at you. Arlo LOVED, LOVED, LOVED the dinosaurs as long as he did not get to close to them. (It was pretty funny!)

We got in more friend time by going to the park and picnicking with Zupas. (I have to eat there at least twice every time I go!)

The next few pics are of our afternoon of fireworks on the 24th. The night is a blast because the boys get to spend all afternoon running around with their many cousins.

Arlo spent some bonding time with his closest cousin, Maebel. They have the same bikes and helmets (not planned) they were so cute together.

We went to Great Skate where they have a water park... which Arlo still talks about to this day... he had a blast. We played in the water park, ate pizza, danced with a DJ and then went inside and played in the arcade. The day was perfect and once again he spent it with his cousins.

(sorry I was screaming, the music was so loud... and if you are wondering what Arlo is doing in the second video, he saw another kid break dancing and that was his version of how to do it.)

We also went to Lagoon and Arlo had a BLAST!!!!!

We also spent a night with adults only where we went to Tim's favorite restaurant and celebrated his B-day. That ended with the girls going out to a movie and the boys going home to pick up the kids.

We ended the trip by stopping on the drive home at Moqui's Cave. Which was a much needed pit stop.

We all went home physically and mentally exhausted. But it was well worth it!

The trip ended our very busy month of July.

So, I'm not even going to mention why it's been two whole months since I have blogged last, because there are too many reasons to list here. And, although I have been bad about blogging about our little life... it does not mean that our life has stopped. But before I forget with my HUGE catch-up blog, I wanted to write down a few things that Arlo has been saying.

Arlo: BRAINS...BRRAAIINNS...BBRRRAAAIIINNSSS

Me: Because _________ (fill in blank).
Arlo: Why mommy?

Arlo: Mommy.... Why not?
Whenever Arlo does not get the answer he wants with Why? He now asks Why Not? Like it's going to change my mind. He's funny, clever, and very irritating!

In the grocery store:
We were going up and down the isles and just like every 2 year old, Arlo wanted everything and when I would tell him no, (usually to the sugary stuff) he would ask why, and my answer is usually along the lines of, 'because we don't need it' or 'we don't need it because it has too much sugar and it's not good for us' among other things like 'because I said no'. Well we were walking down the baking isle and he grabs a bag of marshmallows and instead of asking if he can have them, he looked at me and told me that
he NEEDS it. And so I asked him what he needed them for and he said 'CAMPING!' Well that would have been a great answer if we were going camping but we were not going camping, and so he did not get marshmallows. But it was to funny because he showed me how much he had been listening to me about not getting things we do not need, and he came up with a great reason why we would need marshmallows. He is growing up so fast and not only is he looking bigger but he is getting to smart for his own good!

In the tubby:
Arlo was playing with the bubbles in the tubby when I asked him to stand up so he could get washed and he told me: "Hold on." I said, "Arlo, when I tell you to do something, you need to do it." Arlo replies, "hold on means HOLD ON MOM, mommy I said hold on." I busted up laughing!

Here he goes!

Cohen is now a crawler.

Let me tell you it has been a proccess to get him there, but he is finally a crawler. It all started about 2 months ago when Tow started scootin and rollin around to go get things. If he was going somewhere in particular, it would take him a while to get there but he would be able to do it. If I just put him on the floor, he would be in a different spot in less than a blink of an eye. (The scooting has progressively gotten better. He is now a scootin machine.) Then he decided to learn how to get on all fours and rock. But that is all nothing else. Then about three weeks ago he decided that he wanted to start climbing.

Since then, the kid has fallen and bumped his head hundreds of times because he will not stop climbing on stuff. Not just pulling himself up, but he will climb onto the ottoman and then climb onto the couch. He is crazy and the whole time he does it, he just smiles! And then about a week ago I decided that I could finally call Tow a sitter as well. He still does not sit for long (he likes to go, go, go) but he can sit all by himself for 30 seconds or more at a time before he falls over. Now, starting today, he is a crawler. It was funny, because I was sitting on the floor and Tow crawled over to me. At first, I didn't even realize that it was a crawl and not a scoot. After I was holding for a few seconds did it process. So, I put him back on the floor a few feet away from me and sure enough he crawled the entire way. I was in shock and disbelief. He crawled like he has been crawling for months. When Arlo started crawling he was shaky and it took a few seconds for him to move each hand.

It is funny how different 2 boys from the same parents can be. They are polar opposites. Arlo started crawling at six months and then learned to sit up a few weeks later and then pulled himself up for the first time at around 8 months. He did not start eating solids till about 8 months and when he did it had to have chunks in it, he would not eat smooth food. Cohen has loved food from the first bite at around 4 months. He liked it so much I had to stop feeding him food, because he would fill himself up on food and not want to drink his milk.

Arlo slept through the night since 3 months old. Cohen has never slept through the night. I have slept trained him once to only wake up once throughout the night and that only lasted for a few weeks. Arlo was never sick, Cohen gets little colds ALL the time. Arlo has a very high voice, Cohen's is very low. Arlo has always had hair, Cohen has never had hair. Arlo would never take a binki, Cohen cannot live without it. Arlo did not go through a 'mommy' phase until he was about 17 months, Cohen will cry if I leave the room for more than a few seconds (it's bad, I can't even let Tim do night duty for me, because if Tim goes in and gets him, he screams bloody murder until I take over, and then as soon as I hold him he stops like he was never crying in the first place. Can you say SPOILED?) These are just a few examples of their differences.

I am so proud of my boys. I could not be a happier mama!

100th Blog Post: My Babies

For my birthday, I am getting my blog turned into a book, to have a hard copy of my journal. (I am getting it done at blog2print, the best prices and easiest to do without downloading something or other.) So, before I get it printed I wanted to finish my 100th blog post. This post will be ALL about my favorite subjects... my boys. And, I am even adding in a video which, sadly, I won't be able to see in my book, but fun none-the-less.

The video is long, but Arlo loves to read, this is an animal book that he loves, but some of his favorite stories are Caps for Sale, The Hungry Caterpillar, The Mouse, The Strawberry and the Big Hungry Bear, Goodnight Gorilla, and all his library books that he picks out each week. I love walking in on him as he is reading... so dang cute!

Tow in a Box!

He is such a mama's boy, if I put him down for more than 2 seconds he starts to cry. We have a bumbo, a jumper, an exersaucer and for the past few days, he cries the minute I stick him in any of them. So, I've been coming up with creative ways to keep him contained AND happy.

Every morning we go outside from about 9-10:30 or as late as we can stand it. Even on 115 degree days. (It's really not so bad in the shade, with water.) Once again, since it is an everyday thing, we have to come up with creative ways to stay happy. The new craze... Bubbles!

Fourth of July

I would first like to give a HUGE thank you to all our military men and women who work hard and put their lives on the line everyday to make this country free. So..... THANK YOU to all the military people active and non active, past and present! And Happy B-Day America!

Now... this is how we celebrate!

We had a fourth of July breakfast in the morning with our wonderful ward.

My brother Bryce came by and chilled with us throughout the afternoon.

And then we went over to Rob and Alexa's BBQ where we spent the afternoon eating Dry-Aged steaks, swimming and playing with fireworks.

Arlo learned to jump off the diving board a few days earlier. He was so excited about jumping, when the older kids started jumping off the roof, he kept saying "Arlo turn" after I told him no for the 10th or so time he proceeded to throw a tantrum and tried to climb the ladder anyways. I swear, this boy will be the death of me!

The Greatest Show on Earth (And Stuff!)

The Circus is in town, and now that I have kids of my own, it was a great excuse to go. So, we craigslisted some tickets and got 12th row end seats in the middle section. They were THE GREATEST SEATS! Arlo did amazing the first hour, he could not take his eyes off the show for even a second to take a pic. Then his attitude slowly dwindled until the last few minutes when he was covering his ears and complaining that he wanted to go. Cohen on the other hand was amazing the entire time. He even took a little nap. The pics turned out horrible because they were our cell phone cameras. (I did not want to bust out the Nikon in such a crowded, busy place). But when we asked Arlo if he liked the circus when we left he very enthusiastically said YES! Here are a few highlights!

Arlo and his black eye. This was the day of the swing incident... a few days later it was so much worse.

We went to a splash pad to meet up with some friends. Arlo has never liked splash pads before but this time he had tons of fun jumping over each fountain.

This is my friend Heather; Juli and Kyle were also there, but I din't get any pics of them. But thanks to all of them for seeing me! I missed them dearly. Oh... notice Cohen's legs... so cute!

Swimming, Crawling, Growing!

Cohen's first six months have come and gone! Life has been flying by, but luckily I have my trusty iphone to get some of it on camera!

But first... On Cohen's six month appointment he was 27 1/2 inches tall (85%) and 18.1 pounds (63%).

I know... what???? Cohen has not grown much since his 4 month appointment. Only 1 inch longer and 1.5 pounds heavier. He went from being in the 90% in weight, to the 63%. I did talk with his wonderful pediatrician about this and she reassured that I did not need to worry... yet. Yes, she added on the yet, so, my boy may look chunky and healthy... I am going to make him healthier and chunkier!!!!

We also determined at this appointment that he does have eczema and he has been suffering from infant hypnagogic myoclonus. When I went into the Dr. I was very concerned because there had been six times when Cohen was nursing and falling asleep that he goes into very small convulsions. Well those convulsions turned out to be hypnagogic myoclonus. Or in other words twitching, like most people do when they are sleeping when they know they should be awake... like in class, or in church, but with Cohen instead of being large, single twitches... they were small, and numerous twitches. Well, I liked that answer much more than the alternative!
Other than that, the appointment went well and Cohen is a beautiful, healthy, strong, baby boy!

Now, on to the fun stuff...

(Another Update: Today the top four are now all through. And the bottom two (besides the two that are already in) are now budding white... so in a few more days he will be up to 8 teeth!)

Eating...

Cohen, unlike Arlo, LOVES food! Since his very first bite... until now if you put food in front of his face he will eat it. The problem is, he will eat food and not drink his bottle. I think that is where we are going wrong with the losing weight battle. On days where he eats 2-3 meals he will only drink around 10-12 oz of milk, on days without food it is more like 22-24 oz (right where it should be, even with food).

Funny? YES!

Disappointing? HECK NO!!!!

It was an all expenses paid trip with no kids. (Actually we had to pay for gas to get to and from and our bill was 23.00$) How much better could it get. I really enjoyed it because it was a great peace of mind knowing if anything happened to my kids we were only minutes away.

SO... we spent the weekend at the JW Marriott or Camelback Inn.

Here is the room...

The resort was overbooked and so they ran out of king beds... in the end it turned out all right, we had our own space and we both slept so peacefully! Especially me since it was the first time in over 5 months that I got a full nights rest. Although, the last half of the nights I tossed and turned because I was so full! (Only mama's will understand that comment!)

We started our weekend with a welcome dinner where we were in a ghost town on mummy mountain and there were activities such as tomahawk throwing, cowboy golf, western pictures and a country band to keep us entertained.

The next day they provided a delicious breakfast and then we headed off to different activities. Tim and I chose a cattle drive. It was actually tons of fun. Neither of us had been on a horse in years and they actually let us herd the cattle instead of walking our horses in a line. It was more fun that I had expected!

Later that night they had a farewell black and white dinner.

When Tim and I read the announcement we both read black tie casual, thinking it meant sunday dress. But no... what it actually said was black and white casual where you could wear anything as long as it was the colors black and white. Tim was wearing peach and gray and I was wearing pink!

We were out of place... but we looked good doing it !-)

We figured since we got all dolled up we should take some pictures... the lighting was horrible and we were filling time...

The next morning I went to the resort's spa and was pampered for an hour with a desert nectar honey wrap and facial... it was so relaxing, the way I should wake up everyday!

While I was pampering myself, Tim was sleeping in (his form of R&R!)

This next picture I just had to post, the resort was filled with cacti (cactuses) and 90% of them were thorn free... that's right they plucked all the thorns out of them. And look at the sizes of the plants... ridiculous!

So thank you Timmy for not only being an outstanding husband and father,

but a stupendous employee as well!

Keep up the good work so we can go again next year... to somewhere other than here!

Everything Is Better in Texas

Tim servered an LDS mission in Texas, and since before we were married he has wanted to go back to visit. We figured now would be the best time to go for a few reasons; 1. Arlo is turning two and as long as he is still one he can fly for free, 2. Tim's second mission president is serving as the San Antonio Temple President and will soon be released. So, on Wednesday, April 27th we hopped on an airplane and flew to San Antonio. We were picked up at the airport by Tim's old mission companion Elder Barnwell (Jake) who lives there with his wife (Amy) and two beautiful daughters. The Barnwell family was so sweet to let us stay with them for our trip. We took tons of pictures so everyone can enjoy our trip as much as we did.

Day 1: We started the day off with an Easter Egg Hunt, followed by lunch at Chris Madrids and then took an afternoon boat ride to downtown San Antonio where we were tourists and visited the Alamo. Our First day was not complete until we had dinner at Rudy's BBQ.

Day 2: Easter; Easter morning we woke up to Easter Baskets and another Easter Egg hunt. Then Amy made us all crepes which were AMAZING! Then we went to church in our Easter best (Sorry no pictures of the boys in their Easter suits... we were running late.) and came back early to take a nap. Arlo was so beat from no nap the day before that he slept for over 3 hours. Then our wonderful Hostess made us a delicious steak dinner, and the grownups stayed up way to late watching movies and talking.

Day 3: The Mercado or market square in down town San Antonio. We went shopping and did a little too much of it, but we had a few great finds. I am proud to say we did not come home with a Texas star, but if Tim gets his way we will get one eventually. After the market we got home put the kids down for a nap and got dressed up for a night on the river. Jake is a tour guide on the river and his company does dinner tours, so we took one and it was so relaxing and wonderful and beautiful. Downtown San Antonio is probably the prettiest down town I have ever seen, and it has so much history and charm I would recommend San Antonio for vacation to anyone. After the tour, we went back to the Alamo to experience it at night when it was not so crowded. It was a great photo opp... so we took lots and lots of pictures there.

Day 4: Austin (also Cohen's middle name, named after the city) On Tuesday we loaded up our family along with our tour guide Jake and headed up to Austin to visit Tim's Mission areas. We saw a few apartments he lived in and met up with John, a man that Tim and Jake had taught on the mission. We also stopped at the Salt Lick which is by far the BEST BBQ in the world and then for dessert a Round Rock Doughnut (we just needed one for all of us). Later that evening we met up with John and his wife Chris at Shady Grove and had one more delicious meal. If you have not noticed we ate a lot in Texas, I could never live there because of all the delicious food. Then after dinner instead of driving back to San Antonio right away we stayed to watch the bats. Yes, you read that correctly BATS. In Austin, under a bridge there lives one of the largest colonys of mexican free-tailed bats, 1.5 million to be exact. And every night they all leave at the same time and you see this enormous swarm of bats flying over the river. It is supposed to be an amazing sight. So we called the bat hotline and it said the bats will come out at around 7:30. It was about 6:30 when we first arrived but Arlo and Cohen had bee in the car most the day so we got out and played at the park while we waited. 7:30 came and past, we called the bat hotline again, the time had changed to 8:30, so we played some more and waited. 8:30 had come and past and we called the hotline again 9:15. By this time Arlo was getting pretty cranky and so we left. We did see a few flying under the bridge but no swarm, just dirty, nasty bats. But, we did get a lot of pictures!

Day 5: We got another babysitter for the kids and Jake, Amy, Tim and I all went to the San Antonio Temple. We met up with President and Sister Woods and were able to talk with them and see some of the Temple as well as hear some great stories about parts of the temple. After the temple we went out to eat with President and Sister Woods at The Alamo Cafe where we ate puffy tacos and the BEST tortillas in the world! We got home just in time to pack and get to the airport, to find out that our plane was an hour late.

I will be honest... I went into this trip thinking, this is Tim's trip, I will have a good time for him and enjoy learning about his time here. But as we were going home, I couldn't help but think of how much fun I actually did have. I made a great new friend and I wish we lived closer because if we did, she would totally be one of my BFF's! But, I had so many fun and enjoyable moments... it was a blast! A big thank you to the Barnwell family for sharing their home, their food, their vehicle and most importantly, their time with us. They are a great family and I would be so happy if Arlo marries Kate one day (HeeHee).

Back in SEPTEMBER I started making a quiet book for Arlo. I looked online for ideas and started putting the pages together. I originally was going to give it to him for Christmas, but after Cohen was born, my project was put on a major hiatus. I finally finished it for his birthday. Here is the final result.

Birthday Boy

On April 30th Arlo turned 2. That's right the big T-W-O. We had a quiet family birthday, but it still had all the things a party needs to have.

The PRESENTS...

A woody doll, a play cleaning set (so he does not have to steal grammy's broom anymore), a quiet book (a whole post is coming dedicated to that), a balance bike, and more play food for his kitchen.

(Yes my son was naked for his entire party! What can I say, he likes his birthday suit!)

These are not at the party because I asked Grampy to give him his bike early, because I knew it was going to start to get hot, and I wanted him to learn to ride it while it was cool incase there was a lot of falling.

I Love this picture because you can see Tow in the shadows... so funny!

Here is a picture of one of the hundreds of falls, he flipped over his handle bars. He was pretty upset, but I made him stay on the ground so I could take a picture. (Do I win the great mom award or what?)

CLEAN UP

Was easy because we had helpers!

It was a perfect day outside (it's been hot ever since) Arlo usually loves having family around. But no matter what we did at his birthday party, he was grumpy most of the time. He threw tantrums, he cried, he would not eat his spaghetti or cake, he was mean and by the end, I was ready to throw him in bed. But I continued to be patient with him because it was his birthday. After his tubby, I was drying him off and he was shivering. He never shivers... UH OH! I took his temperature... 101.7! The next day it actually got up to 103.9. I felt so bad, here I was loosing my cool, ready to kill my kid because of how he was acting and the whole time he was sick... POOR BABY!

Growing Up

Cohen:
Now has two teeth... well he has had them for a few weeks, but they are way cute!

Has started eating solids. We started with banana oatmeal and have now moved up in the world with carrots, bananas and mixtures of them all.

Rolls over both ways (also starting a few weeks ago) and he thinks he is so special because he can... it affects everything. I lay him on his mat for tummy time and after 5 minutes he is 5 feet away from all his toys. I lay him on his back or tummy for nap time and he turns on his side. His diaper changes now take much more time and effort because he is always rolling this way and that.

Is quite the talker. In just the past few days he has found out all the noises he can make and makes them all the time.

Is still all smiles!

Arlo:
Has decided that speaking with just a few words is no longer acceptable. Now, he adds in a WHOLE bunch of mumbling in with those few words to tell you what he wants. It makes it even harder to understand him, but he wants to talk like the grown ups and it is so funny!

Got shape and color cards at the grocery store the other day and has to do them every day and because he loves them he now knows all his shapes and colors. He loves saying triangle as ri-a-gl-gl-gl and rectangle as ec-a-gl-gl-gl-gl and circle as cir-gl-gl-gl-gl.

Saw a little girl do a somersault the other day at Jumpstreet and ever since he has been working on it and I am proud to say... he still cannot do it, but he is working so hard and when he does finally get it, I'll get it on video and share it.

Got his first bunch of big boy underwear. He is still not fully potty trained. He will go when you ask him to go, but if you forget to ask him, he does not yet tell you, or when he does tell you it is a little to late. But he has also learned that if he wears diapers he can get away with going to the bathroom in his pants, so he likes to choose when he will wear his big boy underwear.

Is working on sharing, listening and not saying no to mommy.

Has an earlier bed time to cut down on nighttime tantrums and now wakes up way to early.

Is a SPONGE and soaks up everything, it is so fun to watch his little mind always working!

The Most Wonderful Day

This is a LONG OVERDUE post but still so worth it!

On April 9th we had a day worth posting about. And before I begin a big thanks to my friend Tallona for making it all happen!

The day started early, about 5 AM. We woke up and hopped in the car. We dropped Cohen off at Tallona's house at 6:15 and headed over to Tempe for the Pat Tillman run. It was my first year running it, but it was Tim's 3rd. Tim had a goal to beat his last two times. His 1st year he ran 4.2 miles in 42 minutes and then the next year he ran it in 43 minutes and this year he ran it in 38 minutes. I ran with Arlo in the stroller and finished in 1 hour and 28 seconds. Now before you think that is horrible just know that for the 1st 2 miles I ran when ever I had the chance (it was way too crowded since I started with the very last group because I had a stroller) and I let Arlo get out and run at mile 3 and again at the finish line on the football field. So I was pretty excited that I did as well as I did. After the race we walked around and got free samples and coupons.

When we got back to Tallona's house we cleaned up and put Arlo down for a nap, and left both boys with Tallona while we went to the Temple. I won't say how long it has been since we had last gone, but it had been a while and we needed a big spiritual uplifter. I love going to the temple... it is a heaven on earth!

Our perfect day ended with date night. This time Tallona got a babysitter for the kids and we went on a double date to AH-SO. It is a delicious teppanyaki place where they cook the food right in front of you. But the night did not end there. We finished it off with ice cream.

The day was filled with adventure, outdoors, exercise, spiritual uplifting, time with friends, and time with my hubby, good food, and ice cream. Really... what could be better than that?

Two thousand eight hundred and eighty hours

That's right... Two thousand eight hundred and eighty hours is equal to 17 weeks and one day or in Cohen's life... 4 months!

Cohen is 16 lbs 11 oz, 26 1/2 in, with a head circumference of 16.85 in. He has the most beautiful, big, blue eyes you have ever seen. He wears a size 3 diaper and 6-9 month clothes.

His bottom left tooth has been 'right there' for literally 2 weeks but just popped out on March 30th.

He stands/sits in his exersaucer, plays with his hands and feet, laughs and smiles at everything, and has been able to control his head since he was 2 months. (Strong boy!) He is also rolling over from his stomach to his back, although it looks more like he rolls onto his side and then falls on his back... it is pretty funny to watch.

He has never slept more than 6 hours at a time at night in fact he usually wakes up AT LEAST 4 times a night. He is starting to get on a day schedule of a morning, middle of the day and an afternoon nap and he always goes to bed around 8:30. After his 4 month Dr. appointment and telling his pediatrician about his horrible sleeping habits, she said it was about time that I sleep train him. She suggested the Ferber method but altering it to fit our needs. So, on the night of March 29th I put my baby to bed (he falls asleep just fine, I never have to rock him he has always been able to fall asleep by himself.) and after only 1 hour he decided to wake up. So, I went to his crib and I patted his back and told him I loved him until he fell back asleep... about 7 minutes. Each time he woke up I would do the same routine of patting his back and telling him I loved him. He woke again at 11:00 for 10 minutes, at 2:00 he woke up and I was able to feed him and then at 4:00 AM he decided to wake up but by this time he was MAD that I was not holding him or feeding him. After 1 hour of "my routine" and both of us crying, I decided I have had enough and so I scooped him up in my arms, he fell right back asleep and we slept together until morning. I thought for sure I had ruined my night of sleep training, but I am proud to say that since that night we have finally gotten on a schedle I can work with. The next night and every night since he wakes up at 2:00AM for a feeding and then not again until 6-6:30 when he wakes up for the day. Yes, with one night of sleep training we went from 4-6 night awakenings to only 1. If I would have known it was that easy (kinda) I would have done it a month ago.

Cohen is my Sweet boy. When he was brand new, he started out kind of needy (yes I know that all newborns are needy) but he wanted to be held and bounced all the time, or he cried. I think he was a colic baby. But that has worn off, he still spits up all the time but he is always so happy and smily. I just LOVE watching him.

I had to add in this next picture because we all laughed about it... Whenever we go visit Grampy, Cohen always spits up all over him. It has become a joke with Cohen and his grampy because no matter if Grampy is prepared with a cloth or if Cohen hasn't fed in over 3 hours he will always manage to spit up on him. On this day, grampy finally managed to doge the bullet, and just happened to catch the spit up in a rag before it got all over him. He laughed and told Cohen that he had finally beaten him. Well a few minutes later Cohen got him back by..... well take a close look and you will see how Cohen had final say!

Sorry grampy, but now you know for sure who's the boss!

Bye Bye Google Eye

My poor, poor Arlo... When he was born, he was born perfect and then he started growing and for some reason things started to go wrong. He had to get his tongue clipped so he could eat properly, he will someday have to get his jaw fixed from his severe underbite and this last friday he had to get his lazy eye surgically corrected.

Here are pre-surgery, (The left eye is looking at the t.v and the right is not)

So we went to a pediatric surgery center where Arlo got to wear this beautiful gown and play until it was his turn to go into surgery.

In this picture he is sad because I am making him take a picture instead of playing.

From the pre-op room we put Arlo in a little car where a nurse pushed him into surgery. He had to be completely put under so they put a gas mask on him until he fell asleep and then put in an IV to keep him under. The surgery only lasted about 30 minutes and Dr. Pachman said it went wonderfully. He preformed the procedure by tunneling through the white of each eye (he had to work on both eyes to correct the one) to get to the muscles in the back and he loosened the muscles where they were too tight so they could eventually strengthen and be normal.

These are when Arlo woke up. They give the kids a popsicle to get re-hydrated.

He was happy while eating his popsicle and then he went from happy to scared/confused/mean. My poor little guy did not know why his eyes hurt or why he had an IV in his leg. Plus, the nurse said when kids come off of anesthesia they are very cranky. And that was an understatement. We spent the next 30 minutes holding Arlo's arms down because if we let them go he would hit us, and then he would get even more upset because we were restraining his arms. It was a lose-lose situation.

After a 4 hour nap he woke up in a better mood and we spent the day watching movies and tv! You can see in the next pictures his blood shot eyes that will be blood shot for the next week or two.

But... my boy is a trooper and even after all that he still can be silly with his dad!

That is, until we have to put his eye ointment in. Then he is a sad/mad boy once again!

My mom taught us this song when we were little, gross I know, but now that I have two boys of my own, it finally makes sense... except the spoon/straw part.

Example #1

Arlo was taking a bath with his 3 year old cousin. They were playing with some cups from his kitchen set when Arlo stood up, peed in his cousins cup and then his cousin was about to take a drink when Grandma stopped him. (I was not present during this episode)

Example #2

Arlo is learning to blow his nose. When he needs to, he tells me "boogers" and we run to get tissue. Well, one time when I was feeding Cohen, Arlo came up to me and said "boogers," they were not that bad, so I told him to wait. He kept saying boogers and I kept telling him to wait... so he grabbed my shorts and blew his nose right into my shorts.

Blue sand is my mortal enemy. My mom thought it would be a good idea to have blue sand in the boy's sandbox. Needless to say, they LOVE it... so much that Arlo keeps it with him, and when I change his diaper after playing in that blue sand there is always a ring of blue around his little bum... ouch!

Oh... and lets not forget that one time that he decided to try and eat it. Luckily he did not like it and hopefully will not be eating anymore any time soon!

Arlo is OBSESSED with POOP, every time he goes poop he has to see it and then say goodbye to it. Every time his little brother goes poop he has to see it and say goodbye to it. And when Simba (the dog) goes poop he has to pick it up and play with it.

The Good Ole Days

Today I was able to reminisce about the days back before Tim and I were married. The days when tickle fights were fun, when kissing was almost sinful and when we could pick up and go any time we wanted. The great thing about Tim and my relationship is that we started out as friends... really, we did. And we were able to do all these amazing, fun things with each other without all the uncertainty of a brand new relationship. Then of course, Tim realized he could not live another day without having me all to himself and so we became a 'couple' and then engaged and then married and then married with children. (he might argue that first step... because I might have made the first move ;-)

Today while the kids were sleeping I was going through pictures... trying to make more space on my computer... and I came across a file with so many pictures our many different stages (pre kids). They bring back so many memories I just had to share!

Because as corny as it may sound he really does make me a better woman, wife and mother. But I am also grateful for the good ole times that I can look back on and say remember when...

The second time around is such fun. HECTIC. But fun.

Here's the reason why...

You forget how many 'firsts' there are, and then when you see one you get to marvel at how amazing your little one is... then remember the time that the oldest did that very same thing... then remember how time goes by so fast... and so you marvel again at how wonderfully talented your little one is!

So, here are a few big firsts...

A few days before New Years Cohen had his first (not gas) smile. And he's been smiling ever since.

Here are just a few of those many smiles!

We had our first of many, sleeping 6 hours straight during the night on the 26th of January.

Because we were so happy to finally get some good sleep, Cohen started laughing on the 30th of January. (Not yet caught on video.)

These next few things are not firsts, they are just my cute Tow Man!

These last few tidbits I cannot call cute, but they are worth writing about.

Our Tow Tow is a tooter. You read it right, he is full of gas. He reminds me of Pumbaa (from the Lion King) his toots are so loud and grown-up sounding, many times it startles me.

We are so lucky to have a hot tub that we can go swimming in, in the middle of winter. So here is a picture of Cohen going swimming for the first time. He LOVED it!

But I think it is because he loves water... even his tubbies are fun!

We also had a free session with the hospital photographers and we got a few cute pictures. I also made sure we got a few of Cohen in his blessing outfit that his Great Grandma Levie gave him.

Cohen was blessed on January 16th by his Daddy. Tim gave him a beautiful blessing! We spent the rest of the day with our family who came from all over to support us and be there for Cohen's special day. We are so lucky to have such a wonderful family!

And no post would be complete without recording the latest stats from his 2 month appointment.

My Baby The Big Boy

Arlo is and will always be my baby. Even though he says he is a big boy, does so many big boy things and even looks like a big boy... he is still my baby.

And here is 5 reasons why...

1. He talks like a big boy... He loves to count (he can't do it all by himself yet but loves to repeat, or say the next number), He loves to tell the color of things (his favorites are green and blue) even though he gets mixed up every once in a while. He is also starting to form sentences. His first sentence he said a week or so ago and it was "Arlo's turn!" but since then he has been putting words together left and right. He is a talking machine.

So in this video I tried to get in as much as he would let me in a very short period...

But he still loves me to sing to him at night... like my baby!
Right now his favorite songs to sing are The Ants Go Marching, I Like to Eat Apples and Bananas, If You're Happy and You Know It, The Eensy Weensy Spider and Head Shoulders Knees and Toes and Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed.

2. He sleeps in a big boy bed. He has also learned that he can get out of that big boy bed and play until mommy or daddy catch him and make him go back to bed.

This is when he should be sleeping, I walked in and he hurried and laid down but all his toys were still on his bed... so we picked up and tried again.

This is my big boy when right when he woke up, he always wakes up so happy.

But he still loves to snuggle with me like my baby.

3. Arlo will watch whole entire movies like a big boy. Right now his favorites are Nemo, Bolt, The Little Mermaid, How to Train Your Dragon and Elmo (Especially Elmo goes poop, which is really called Elmo Uses the Potty.)

(It always helps if his cousin sits and watches with him.)

But he still loves to hold my hand!

4. He plays like a big boy.

Arlo is the biggest dare devil... in the world! If you do not watch close enough he will climb on top of anything and everything and even worse likes to run around, jump or dance on top of whatever he has just climbed on... I have to keep a very close eye on him!

But he still likes to play naked like a baby?!

There is no good explanation... I just hate the fight to put on clothes, so he goes naked!

5. He even looks like a big boy with his new haircut!

But he still looks like my baby when he whines!

(And this is not even the worst of it!)

So even though he is growing up, as you already know, he will always be my baby!

Okay... I went a whole month without blogging... I was dying! The truth is I love to blog, it is such a fun way to brag! :-) So the next few days (maybe a week depending on my boys) I will try and catch up. Because January was a BUSY month!

I am going to start with our New Years trip to Utah.

When we first got to Utah (we flew up as a family this time and it was wonderful, I will never drive again!) The weather is what you would expect in Utah for being the end of December. It was cold, everything looked dead and ugly and the snow was melting and brown. Then, while we were there they had a HUGE storm. It was cold and miserable... but Arlo loved it. Here is a video of him playing(stomping) in the snow saying snow over, and over again.

Sorry about being sideways, I do not know how to fix that.

Sorry about my voice, this is when I finally started getting it back, it was gone for a few weeks.

He also had a blast going sledding. We went with Arlo's 2 cousins Katie and Brinton... It was so cold!

He was so cute all bundled up!

Tim went once with his nephews and it was so cold that Jordan got freezer burn on his face and wrist. Tim did not want to go again because it was so miserable. And if Tim did not want to go again, I was not going to argue... I hate being cold.

SO, for Valentines day, we are going snowboarding... I will post about that later!

Christmas Overload

I don't want to overwhelm anyone but Christmas is such a wonderful time and I wanted to fit it all in, in one post. So here it goes....

Arlo is absolutely obsessed with Christmas lights. I have no idea what he is going to do when they are all taken down. To make Arlo happy, we went through the drive through Christmas Light Show, which he LOVED! There is also a video while we were going through the show, and you can hear Arlo saying lights... pretty funny stuff.

I thought it was wonderful that at the light show they had a time line of Jesus' life here on this earth. After all, that is what the season is all about. I am so grateful for my Savior who lived on this earth as an example to me and who died so I can return and live with my Heavenly Father once again!

This was our Christmas morning. Well... part of it. Arlo had a kitchen, train and chair set up on the other side of the room.

Arlo was at the stage this year where he loved the lights, he loves to see snowman and santa everywhere he looked, he also does a great job of yelling ho! ho! ho! At the same time he did not understand much of everything else. I am going to be super excited next year when Arlo will be old enough to participate and understand more of our Christmas traditions and Cohen will be almost where Arlo was this year.

This year we spent Christmas here in good, old AZ. And this was the 1st year in a while where we spent Christmas with my entire family.

And then when he got off the toilet and had to flush his poop down the toilet he almost started crying because he wanted to stand there looking at it and clapping for himself.

These next pictures are just fun pictures that Tim created. Because we ran out of time and never got to see Santa this year. :-(

These last pictures I want to warn you I am just bragging here. For Christmas my mom and my husband got me five new pairs of shoes. I was so spoiled and got many other things as well, but these made my Christmas!

So that just about sums up our Christmas! I absolutely love Christmas. It really is the BEST time of the year. But when you have a family as great as mine, with two of the cutest and sweetest boys and a wonderful husband... I couldn't be happier!

Little Boys Growing Bigger

I have to spend a minute complaining about how fast time flies by! In just 1 day my little Cohen is already going to be 1 month old! Have I really gone a whole month with no sleep? Maybe that is why time has gone so fast! Well, before it goes by without me remembering anything I of course need to brag about my two beautiful, wonderful boys!

At Cohens 2 week checkup (which was really two weeks and 4 days) I found out that like Arlo, my boys are big boys. Even though Cohen was born small at 8 lbs 11 oz (because he was a week early), he was in a hurry to catch up with his older brother. Like most newborns Cohen's weight went down after his birth. When we left the hospital he was 8 lbs. 4 oz. but at his checkup he weighed 10 lbs. 9 oz! Which puts him in the 85th percentile for his weight. His height has gone from 20 and 1/2 inches to 22 inches, which is in the 82nd percentile. And his head is now 38.5 cm which is the 71st percentile. I guess whatever I am feeding him is working!

Cohen may want to be big like his brother, but he has also let me know these past few weeks that he has a completely different personality than his brother. Arlo was the perfect baby. He never cried, he was sleeping 4 hours or more at a time (by this age), he was perfect! Cohen on the other hand has to be held constantly or he cries, spits up all over the place and will not sleep longer than 3 hours at a time (and I am lucky when I get that!) Also, Cohen is a grunter. I need to get it on video, because he grunts all the time... it's so weird.
But, even though he is a harder baby, I think he knows he has to be because his older brother takes up so much time, if Cohen did not demand my attention, or get his attention throughout his many night feedings he would never get any attention! Poor kid! I do love him though! So here are some updated pics of my beautiful baby boy!

When Cohen came home from the hospital, I was watching Arlo with Cohen and I was so surprised to see how big Arlo has become. Not only in size, but in how he acts as well. He is so sweet, with Cohen. He calls him Toe Toe, because he cannot say the 'C' sound and he loves him so much. He wants to hold him and sing to him and love him all the time. BUT he does get jealous as well. He gets very jealous mostly when I am feeding and burping Cohen. I truly enjoy having my boys! I love them so much.

Arlo is also growing up because lately he has been telling us when he is going to the bathroom. So Tim and I decided to get the things he needs to potty train. We got him Elmo's Potty Time Video which he calls Elmo Poo, a little toilet seat that goes on the toilet and a stool to get on the toilet. The second time he sat on his toilet, he sat there for a few minutes, and he never tinkled. When I took him off the potty he ran to his room, sat on the stool we got him and proceeded to pee on his stool. So, although he is growing up he is still, and will always be a stinker!

Pardon his outfit here... I had him in jeans but when he goes down for his nap I like to change him into his pj pants so he is more comfortable and this was right after his nap.

Here are some more pictures of my big boy. And although he is talking all the time, starting the potty training process, learning to ride a trike, and so many other big boy things... look at his shirt... he is still drooling to the point where he needs a bib. I would like to blame it on teething but he has had all of his teeth including his 18 month molars since he was 12 months!

Bye Bye Bronco

Today was a sad day. Today I gave our loyal, family dog away. Bronco was such a good dog. He was Arlo's best friend, one of the few dogs that Tim has actually liked, and my royal pain (but I still loved him!). Ever since we moved, he has not been getting the attention he deserved, and he had to become an outside dog... which he did not like. Also, with me not getting the sleep I need and dealing with two children everyday, I could not give him the love he deserves. So, my only solution was to give him to a family who would love him more than us. We found that family. He was the Christmas present for a seventeen year old boy, who wanted a tough dog that he could have fun with... and that is Bronco! So this is my post in honor of a great family dog.

Family Pictures.... A great time of year when we dress in our best and show ourselves off. This year was a little hectic. Since I did not know exactly when Cohen would be born I did not hire a photographer like I should have. Instead I spent tons of time and money picking out perfect outfits and getting ready to go to Target Picture studios. Yes, you read correctly... target picture studios. The whole experience was HORRIBLE! Why did I do it... I was desperate for Christmas pictures, and I got what I deserved. So now I am calling in backup and getting real pictures done but they wont be here in time for our Christmas cards so we will have to make due with what we have. Here are the few shots we got... and in all of them I can name a thing or two I do not like about them... so do not judge too harshly, I am well aware that they are not perfect. I will say that the Target people did try their best with my children, but trying to pose a 1 year old for family pictures in 15 minutes is not as easy as it may seem. (HA!)

Just wanted to show this one, because this is what happened in 60% of the pictures... they cut Tim's head off. And it frustrates me because I loved my entire outfit, but you cannot see my cute mustard yellow shoes and black tights in any of these shots.

Bringing Home Baby!

While I was pregnant, I would sometimes watch the show Bringing Home Baby. Although, I would never want my whole story video recorded and put on television for all to see, I always though how great it was that these parents had every detail on video for them to show their baby one day.

With this entry, it will be more of a journal for Cohen and for me to always remember everything about his wonderful journey into this life.

Ever since Tim and I have been dating we were in agreeance that we wanted our children to be close. Tim and his sister are around 16 months apart and my sister and I are only 15 months apart and we both LOVED growing up close to a sibling. Right after we had Arlo we began making plans for Gooch number 2. Luckily for us, after only a few months of trying, we were blessed with another healthy pregnancy. With Arlo I had a horrible pregnancy. I was miserable! I was in no way looking forward to getting pregnant again, but we wanted to stick with our plan. On, finding out I was pregnant I will have to admit that I was more nervous than excited. But this is where I truley believe that my Heavenly Father stepped in and calmed my nerves beause like I have mentioned before, this pregnancy was a peice of cake compared with Arlo.

The next big step was in finding out the sex of the baby. Tim and I both wanted another little boy. We were both so excited that instead of waiting for week 18, Tim and I went to a ultrasound place to find out the sex at week 13. And we were both so relieved to know that our plans were working out perfectly. The rest of the pregnancy was pretty univentful. No major complains, and I have Arlo to thank for that. He kept me so busy!

When I was 36 weeks pregnant my Dr. and I started talking about plans for the delivery. I did not go into labor with Arlo, I was induced, so with Cohen I wanted to go into labor on my own. But there was a discrepancy between me and the Dr. about when my due date actually was. Because we were planning Cohen, I KNOW that my due date was Nov. 21. But with one of my ultrasounds Cohen's measurements were dating November 29th. So, that is the date that my Dr. kept as my due date. Needless to say I was not very happy with his decision. Based on his due date, I decided it would be best to go ahead and plan the induction.

On November 23 Tim and I woke up early, I called Arlo's babysitter to make sure she was ready and we prepared to go to the hospital. About 15 minutes before we had to leave my phone started ringing. It was the hospital. They wanted to postpone my induction for a later time. I was relieved to find out that it was only to postpone and not to cancel. Well, I was supposed to go in at 9:00 AM and I did not get the call to go in until 7:00 PM. Yes, I had to wait 10 hours. Waiting was so much worse than a cancellation. Tim wanted to go to a movie, dinner and shopping but I was so worried that the hospital would call during these activities we spent most of the day doing nothing. Yet, at the same time it was so nice to have a day with Tim. It had been to long since our last kid free day together.

Well, the rest of the story I will make quick. We got to the hospital around 7:30. They got me on pitossin around 9:30. I got my epidural around midnight. And Cohen was born at 1:59 AM. Everything went so well. My epidural was perfect. I could feel no pain but I could still move my legs. And my labor was fast. I really could not have asked for a better delivery. My Doctor I also want to mention was great. He was not on call with either one of my children, but he was there for both of their deliveries. I was so grateful to have a doctor who cares and who goes out of his way to be there for his patients.

Now that Cohen is finally here and I have had a week to adjust, I have to say that I love my boys! I will be honest and say that I was so worried about loving Cohen as much as Arlo, but it is possible. Heavenly Father has blessed me with 2 beautiful boys and a loving husband. I really couldn't ask for a better life!

New Addition

The time has finally arrived!
We welcomed baby Cohen into this world on November 24th at 1:59 AM.
He weighed 8lbs 11oz and was 20 1/2 inches long. (Although at the Dr. office on friday they measured him at 21 1/2 inches long)

To me he is perfect and beautiful and looks almost identical to Arlo when he was born. I am going to post more pics and journal all the wonderful details later.

So for now.... here is Cohen Austin Gooch.

The End In Sight!

Just a quick post...

I went to my doctor today and we have scheduled the big day!

I am scheduled for induction on Tuesday, November 23rd!

Now, correct me if I am wrong but that is only 1 week away!

It is so exciting and scary all at the same time.

SO... be on the lookout for Gooch #2!

As I look back on this pregnancy, I am just so thankful it was nothing like with Arlo. My nausea was under control... I can count the times I threw up on both hands! I did not swell, I did not gain as much weight, I could not have told you what week of pregnancy I was in, I did not have the constant pain under my right rib, I was not miserable!!! I am not going to lie, there were a few moments I was not so happy being pregnant, but overall this pregnancy was wonderful compared to the last!!! I would like to thank my little man Arlo, for keeping me pre-occupied ALL the time, it has helped bunches! Now, I am not so nervous for the next pregnancies! Yes, there will be more Gooches to come!
